IR receivers are designed to receive data packets from an IR transmitter. They differ in the carrier frequency of the IR signal (30, 33, 36, etc. kHz). The receiver circuitry is well protected from random impulses and interference. The absence of a signal (like most other IR receivers) corresponds to a high logic level at the output of the IR receiver; when a signal is received, a low-level pulse appears at the output.
